York Law Society aims to provide those who are interested in a legal career, whether this be as a solicitor or a barrister, with a wealth of opportunities to help develop their skills and further their experience.

We arrange careers-related workshops, presentations, and advice in association with a number of leading law firms and barristers’ chambers. Moreover, we host fantastic networking opportunities such as the Annual Careers Dinner, which is attended by a variety of law firms and barristers’ chambers every year and always boasts to be a fantastic night!

We also understand the importance of meeting peers interested in pursuing a similar career and the opportunities this gives for sharing experiences and information. Therefore, we regularly arrange social events that all our members are encouraged to attend and enjoy, such as the Spring Ball, President's Welcome and the new Rooftop Bar Event. We also host fortnightly club nights and other social events such as movie nights, karaoke, and pub quizzes.

We have a number of opportunities open to everyone! If you're into football or netball, why not join one of our inclusive teams? (all genders are welcome at either!) If you love writing, we also have our very own legal journal and welcome new ideas and articles about a variety of legal topics. If you are an international student, we host regular meet-ups, as well as specific events if you want to practice abroad. We truly believe we have something for everyone: from large formal events, to careers-related workshops, you can choose what Law Society looks for you.
