Welcome to the sports section of the Law Society’s website. This is the fourth year that the Law Society’s sports teams have been running and we are proud of the progress we have made in relation to team sizes, training sessions and fixtures. We would like you to know that experience isn’t necessary as people of all abilities are welcome to join the sports teams.

What We’ve Done

2019 proved to be an even busier year for our sports teams, as we competed in friendly netball and football matches with other university law societies. These matches were a success as we effectively used sport as an icebreaker to meet other like minded students, and took the opportunity to make connections which we hope to continue this year.

Our teams also took part in a brilliant tournament organised by the university of Manchester’s law society, which was a lot of fun and was rewarding for both our teams. We hope to return to Manchester for their next tournament in 202

What We Plan to Do This Year

This year we plan to maintain the size and success of our sports teams whilst promoting them in order to maximise turnouts and improve the frequency of match fixtures.

Alongside this, we also plan on more Sports Society socials to enable teams to build strong relationships and have a great time off the court and outside of the lecture theatre!

This year we hope to organise more friendly matches with the college teams at York and other law societies in the north. We also hope to organise games and networking events with law firms and perhaps a barrister’s Chambers, so keep an eye out!
